Unfortunately, we had to cancel our planned flyout to Sunriver (S21) on December 11 due to weather. We’ll try again on January 8th, departing at 10am. The plan is to take the resort shuttle to the Sun River Resort to grab lunch at one of the resort restaurants.

It’s almost time for our annual club meeting to cover general business and officer elections. Over dinner, we’ll have a chance to meet the many new members that joined this year, provide an overall update on the club and our financials, discuss what we’ve accomplished over the last year, hold officer elections, discuss plans for the future, and discuss other business that you wish to bring up.
The President, Treasurer, and Safety & Maintenance Officer positions expire in January, so elections will be held for these positions. If you have interest in serving on the Board, please contact any of the board members for more information on these positions: Isaac Mosgrove (President), Simon Hayes (Vice-President), Joan Johnson (Treasurer), Alan Lasneski (Secretary), Al Gray (Safety & Maintenance), Chris Eriksson (Chief Pilot).
If you know of special topics, proposals, or concerns that you’d like to discuss, please contact Isaac so that we can be sure that they are on the agenda. We look forward to recapping the accomplishments of this past year and to look ahead to further improvements for the future. This year’s meeting will be at 6:00 pm, Wednesday, January 26th at La Margarita Express, 515 Chemeketa St NE (members pay for their own orders). -

Quarterly club meetings are held with the Board in order to provide members more opportunities to ask questions, make suggestions, raise concerns, and have increased visibility into the status and workings of the club. This is your club, so the Board wants to make sure you are aware of what is happening throughout the year. The quarterly meetings will be held on the 2nd Tuesday of the 2nd month each quarter at 7:00 PM in the flight planning room.

Put on your epaulets and brief your FO as this leg is going to KPDX. On Saturday February 19th we’ll make the short hop to Portland International for some class Charlie airspace fun. The plan will be to park at Atlantic Aviation and walk to the airport terminal for donuts and coffee at Blue Star Donuts, which is on the pre-security side of concourse E. Be sure and brush up on your wake turbulence avoidance and familiarize yourself with the KPDX airport diagram. We’ll meet at 10:00 am for pre-flight and briefing of the procedures for getting in and out of KPDX.

On Saturday May 14th, we’ll make the 143-mile trek to Yakima, Washington to visit the McAllister Museum of Aviation and grab lunch at Reno’s on the Runway. Lots of beautiful scenery along the way as we will pass over the Columbia Gorge and then fly near Mt Adams. There might even be an opportunity to visit the Cub Crafters facility but that is TBD. This is a perfect opportunity to get some out of the area cross country experience and partner with another club member or a club instructor and split costs.

We have planned our annual Strawberry Shortcake and BBQ event for Saturday, June 25th, weather permitting! Please bring your choice of meat for your family and a salad or main dish to share in the potluck. The club will provide beverages and strawberry shortcake for everyone.
We'll start the event at 12pm, with the grilling starting at 1pm. Bring your family and friends to enjoy an afternoon at the hangars! We’ll also invite the Tower so we can get a chance to visit with some of our controllers.
This event is BYOC (Bring Your Own Chair). It would be helpful – but isn't required – to RSVP to Isaac Mosgrove so that we can plan enough beverages and strawberry shortcake.
Keep an eye on your emails in case the schedule changes!

The first full weekend in August, the Orcas Island EAA chapter hosts the annual fly-in and antique car show. In past years there have been 50-100 airplanes parked for camping during the fly-in. The quaint town of Orcas is a short walk from the airport for dining and shopping. During the fly-in, the fire station next to the airport hosts a pancake fund raiser so that covers your breakfast part of the day.
For those camping, it's best to stake out a spot early so we’ll depart late Friday morning August 5th. On Saturday we’ll also plan to make the hop over to Friday Harbor or Roche Harbor for some lunch or dinner. If you have extra time, you are welcome to stay a few extra days as a few of us will be making some day trips into other popular fly-in spots in Washington and/or staying over at airplane camping friendly airports on the return trip to Salem. See the October 2021 newsletter or a summary of our San Juan adventures last year.
If you aren’t a camper feel free to book a local B&B or fly-up early Saturday or Sunday morning for the day. If the San Juan Islands are on your flying destination bucket list, now is your opportunity to join in on the fun.

Joan and Vern have graciously agreed to host the party, starting at 6:00 PM on Saturday, December 10th. In order to have enough food for everyone, each member is asked to bring either a main dish or salad, and a small dessert to share. The club will provide meat and some fixings. We’ll also do a gift exchange, so bring a fun gift in the $10-20 range (aviation gifts are always fun). Bring your family or friends for a fun evening together.
This is a great time to see old friends and to meet some of our newer members. Please RSVP to Isaac by December 3th so that we can get the plans finalized and seating appropriately spaced. Also, please let Isaac know if you can volunteer to help clean up after the party. Feel free to text or email Isaac or Joan if you have questions.
